Was een erg leuke dag. In de sneeuwjacht naar Helmond gereden. Eerst naar de Heep-inn, hier was de band zelf ook. Het voorprogramma Mostly Autumn was heel goed. Thijs van Leer floot mee met Tales en bij de toegift Lady in Black, waarbij ook Mostly Autumn op het podium kwam. Diverse bandleden waren verkleed, het werd één groot (kerst)feest.

Hi Louis, I’ve been panting since last Saturday. The past two years I’ve managed to see the band four times and each time I think that it can’t be beaten but what happened in Helmond was the superlative one can imagine. After a one-and-a-half hour journey with a true snowstorm I arrived at the Plato and my ticket to the Heep In as well as the concert were right there (thanks for the service). It was a perfect warming up, a nice pint and chatting to like-minded people and on top a cool auction (unfortunately no prize). After that some nice eating out and the support act. I go to concerts rather frequently and most of the time support acts aren’t worth listening to, but this time I really enjoyed it! There was even a moment that I simply felt as if I was elsewhere, very magical. Then Heep. I am lost for words about that, I don’t think any concert can top this. The atmosphere that evening, with the extras like Thijs van leer’s performance and a very full stage at the end, I’ll never forget this. Next time in May I’ll be there and I hope Heep will last many years to come, if necessary until 2040 when I will be at the front again with my fellow retired homies waving our walkers! Uriah Heep live in Plato Helmond was als vanouds weer een daverend succes! De goed bezochte 'Heep in' voorafgaand aan het concert was uitermate gezellig, vooral toen de voltallige band, op Bernie na vanwege een voetblessure, acte de presence kwam geven. De Heep Quiz werd gewonnen door Harrie Otten, Heep kenner pur sang! Hij kreeg een gesigneerd exemplaar van de special edition Magicians Birthday Party DVD/CD set. Na de prijzen werd er een kleine verloting gehouden van o.a. drie prachtig japanse uitgaven van Klassieke Heep CD's ter beschikking gesteld door Yumico Nakayma. Franky Bruyneel fotograaf van Rockreport en Mindview maakte foto's en stelde een prachtige aktiefoto van Mick ter beschikking van het prijzenfestival. Katty de Verhagen had een speciale Magicians Birthday LP meegebracht en ook een van Toe Fat...het leverde enige hilariteit op toen bleek dat een Hensley georienteerde plaat werd verloot. De band maakte een act van de uitreiking...Lee als volleerd engelse gentleman bracht bij iedere winnaar het geaffecteerde PERFECTLY WELL DONE!

Daarna was het signeren geblazen en op de foto met onze helden.Om 10.30 was de beer op het grote podium los..het leek wel of Heep alles had kunnen spelen...het publiek was bijzonder in de mood. Muzikale uitschieters: Magicians Birthday, Look at Yourself, July Morning en Tales. Op naar Borstrock vanavond!!

We, Frans, Fred and I, arrived at 16.15 at Plato in Helmond. We were the first Heep-fans. The Heep-Inn should begin at 17.00 hours so we had a little time to place the tables near the entrace, to check the list of participants. etc. At 16.45 the first people tried to get in, but despite the snow, we weren't allowed to lt them in. Sorry again Leo and Monique and all the others. But because of the snow the doors opened a litlle bit earlier. The bus from Bergen op Zoom arrived around 17.00 hour and after half an hour about 130 people had entered the Heep-Inn. Mick, Phil and Bernie arrived a little bit later for the soundcheck. Everybody was talking, eating (oliebollen) and drinking. Louis and Diana were selling the merchandise of Mostly Autumn and Uriah Heep. When the soundcheck was finished Louis started the raffle. The chance to win something was not so bad there were about 130 numbers and 6 prizes. Nummber 88 was very lucky because he had two prizes on one number. If you didn't win anything, maybe there's a new chance next year. During the raffle Louis had to wear the golden jacket he won two weeks ago in London. Three members of the band continued signing albums and talking to their fans.

Mostly Autumn was the support-act of Uriah Heep during this tour. Mostly Atumn was a good warming-up gig for Uriah Heep. It's a beautiful kind of symphonic rock. Sometimes soft, sometimes powerfull. Sometimes to powerfull for the female vocals, but I hope to hear more of them soon. Uriah Heep. The beginning of the concert was like usual. Return to fantasy, Universal wheels, Only the young and Stealin'. After Stealin' came the first surprise, Thijs van Leer (Focus and the Magician's Birthday Party). Thijs played on the flute and he "jodelde" in Tales like the good old times in Focus. Than Between two worlds, I hear voices, Logical Progression dedicated to the late Hans Bokelman, I'll keep on trying and The magician's Birthday with Lee on drums and kazoo. The band also played Sunrise, Look at yourself, Gypsy and July morning. The encore was Bird of prey, Easy livin' and the show ended after almost 2 hours with 7 "ladies in black" on stage with Lady in black (2nd encore). 

Manfred Mann's Earth Band * 15 november 2001, De Boerderij - Zoetermeer

Setlist Manfred Mann: Joybringer, Shelter From the Storm, Nothing Ever Happens, Castles Burning, Martha's Madmann, House of the Rising Sun/Dancing in the Dark medley, Don't Kill it Carol, Angels at my Gate, Spirits in the Night/Father of Day medley, Demolition man, Blinded by the Light, Redemption Song, SOS, She Was, Davy's on the Road Again en The Mighty Quinn.  
Alle hits kwamen voorbij, maar ik miste de originele zanger Chris Thompson. De nieuwe zanger had wel een goede stem maar zong naar mijn smaak wat teveel soul-achtig. Wel leuk om nog eens live één van mijn oude favoriete bands te zien. Grappig was dat de zanger op een gegeven moment wat geïrriteerd raakte door een felle lamp recht in zijn gezicht.... Blinded by the Light....

It took me a day to recover but here is the report. Finally Manfred Mann's Earth Band back in Holland for three gigs in three days. Enough to invite some fan friends to come to Holland and join me in those three MMEB days and keeping up the nice international contacts we have. Together with Ben, another Dutch fan, Erika, Reinhard and Iris from Germany we went to the gigs in Zoetermeer (15th), tadskanaal (16th) and Hardenberg (17th). Unfortunately Angela stayed at home and I really hope all is

The 3 day trip started very nice with a coffee at the fireplace because the central heating had fallen out. At 8 we went to the gig in Zoetermeer. The place called "De Boerderij". At the entrance Ben was waiting for us and together with two of his friends we went inside. It was a nice little venue with around 700 people. With no supporting act and Ian changing the setlist at the last moment we were anxious to our first gig with Pete as the new drummer. The setlist, well known, Joybringer, Shelter, Castles (This was new for Ben), Martha, Carol, Dancing, Angels at my gate, Father, Demolition man, and Blinded. And after the break Redemption song, Davy and Mighty Quinn.

Although it was Pete May's one of his first gigs life on stage, it seemed that the band was playing together for years. For the ones that like the music it's no loss that Richard left the band, Pete knows exactly what to do. Richard played a little bit louder I think and he is much shorter than Pete. Thanks for the gigs I saw you on stage Richard and hope you're doing well in the future. The band played again with much fun. Highlight for me was Dancing in the dark because I like the mixture very much.

A request to Manfred: If you're able to make such a wonderful arrangement (with or without friends) please give us more. Besides Dancing, Martha's Madman is allways a life sensation, the way Manfred plays the keyboards in this song can't last long enough. That same feeling comes back when Mick and Manfred are having a fight during Father. Especially during the third gig I was suprised by the way they were performing this part, again too short unfortunately. Evert it was nice meeting you (Uriah Heep is going to Hardenberg on the 21th of December). After the gig Ben went home and we to our tiny cozy hotel near the "IJssel" where we got our last drink at the fireplace and where the central heating was working again, so a hot shower the next day.

Met John den Hoogen, Hans, Nicole en Renate nóg maar een keer naar de Kade. Het was de vorige keer ook weer zo goed geweest. Het was een volle bak, de Kade had meer dan 600 kaarten verkocht en moest het bordje uitverkocht op de deur hangen.

Verslag van Zaandam 9 mei 2001 door Marc Stoute. I.v.m. eventuele files vanaf het werk vroeg vertrokken en m'n jongere Quo-fan-broer opgehaald om naar Zaandam af te reizen. Het begint een gewoonte te worden met z'n tweeën concerten af te lopen. Hij mee naar Uriah Heep en Deep Purple, ik mee naar Quo (je moet er dus wat voor over hebben...). In Zaandam aangekomen met moeite een palmpje weten te scoren, nadat we eerst overal op Heineken waren gestuit. Vooraf een frietje in een tent waarvan werd gezegd dat ze de lekkerste handgemaakte frites hadden van Zaandam. Ben ik blij dat ik niet in Zaandam woon!! Maar goed, tegen negenen richting de Kade, waar we 1X eerder waren geweest. Volle bak, maar daarom niet minder gezellig. Lekkere muziek ook vooraf, hetgeen niet bij ieder concert het geval is.....meestal bagger! Iets over tijd (tegen half tien) zijn daar dan eindelijk de heren waar het ons (mij in ieder geval) om te doen is om in te zetten met "Return to Fantasy", een nummer waar ik goeie herinneringen aan over heb gehouden. 

Allemaal zijn ze perfect in vorm, ze hebben er zin in, dat staat nu al als een paal boven water. Stil staan lukt niet meer...ik moet bewegen en zingen en dichterbij zien te komen. Al snel sta ik op 2 meter afstand van Trevor af. Het blijft een vreemd idee om zo dicht bij iemand te staan, waar je zoveel jaren naar luistert via lp en cd. Dit maakt de Kade dan ook als een unieke locatie om te spelen. Ahoy (waar DP optreedt)ligt lekker dichtbij, maar je staat mijlenver van iedereen vandaan. Afijn....in een razend tempo wordt, afwisselend oud en nieuw/hard en zacht doorgespeeld en ik krijg het steeds warmer. Stilstaan zou een optie zijn, maar dat is dus niet mogelijk. Gelukkig denken er meer zo over want rondom me wordt gehost en meegegalmd. En niet alleen ouwe lullen zoals ikzelf (35), maar ook kids van een jaar of 10! Prachtig om ook die generatie Gypsy zien mee te zingen. 

Het geluid was overigens hier en daar zelfs iets te zacht (Phill), maar verder geen slecht woord over de hele avond. Gelukkig bedachten ze zich ook niet toen ze de eerste keer van het podium verdwenen. Het was tenslotte het laatste concert in Nederland (dit jaar!), maar ze kwamen terug en wel 2X!! Wat een prachtige akoestische gitaarsolo van Mick tussendoor! Ik begrijp echt niet dat Heep in Nederland nooit helemaal van de grond is gekomen. Wat ze op zo'n avond in Zaandam neerzetten getuigd toch echt van professionaliteit en kwaliteit. Helaas komt er al snel weer een eind aan dit feest en na 2X Bernie de hand te hebben geschud, weer op huis aan. Het is nu even afwachten of Bernie z'n belofte van het begin van de avond gaat waarmaken en er inderdaad weer een totaal nieuwe cd gaat komen.....En wat komt er na een nieuwe cd......De Kade???
